Refereed Journal - Juried Articles What is a Refereed
Journal? The editor sends all manuscripts to a panel for review,
assessment and advice. In accordance with guidelines established,
panelists
have the opportunity to advise the editor on appropriateness for
publication. The editor is free to act, regardless of the panelists'
opinion, as he or she sees fit. A refereed journal is one involving
a panel of specialists, whose opinions and decisions regarding
the value of a manuscript are more important than those of the
editor
alone. It may also be called a "juried" journal. What is
a Juried Article? It is a piece which the editor of a professional
publication has submitted to a group of specialists in a professional
field for
their evaluation and approval. It may also be called a "refereed" article. Teacher
Librarian is a refereed or juried journal by these definitions.
All manuscripts are sent to at least two external readers for their
review and advice to the editor. While refereed journals tend to
be academic and scholarly, TL stresses the need to protect the
professional from identifiable error, fuzzy thinking and unnecessary
duplication. TL instructions for the review of articles are available on request. |
