Our Editors

Dr. David Loertscher, an important and well-respected leader in school librarianship in the United States, was president of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL, 1995-1996), during the development and writing of the standards and the development of School Library Media Research (the online journal) and Knowledge Quest (the practitioner journal of AASL). Loertscher has written and presented extensively on a variety of topics in the field of library and information science and is currently president of Hi Willow Research & Publishing, which focuses on providing professional resources for the school library media specialist.

Esther Rosenfeld, a luminary in the field of school librarianship in Canada, was president of the Ontario School Library Association (2002 and 2003). At the TDSB, Mrs. Rosenfeld is responsible for program support for its 570 elementary and secondary school libraries and for a central resource support infrastructure for all schools (including a central professional library, a central media library, and central technical services for school libraries). According to the TDSB, Mrs. Rosenfeld is "a strong advocate for the importance of school libraries and school librarians…and is well known within the TDSB and indeed throughout the education community as a collaborative, inspiring and encouraging leader." Just this year, OSLA recognized Mrs. Rosenfeld's dedicated leadership in libraries with the OSLA Exceptional Achievement award. Mrs. Rosenfeld has also written and presented widely on a variety of topics in the field of school libraries.
