biographies of aviation pioneers, pilots and inventors.
They can
also find out what a barnstormer is and meet a modern
day one, and learn about the dangerous adventures the
first airmail pilots met when the US Postal Service
began to deliver mail by air.
The History of Flight
This web page from NASA provides answers to common
questions kids have about the origins of human flight.
Explore
the history of flight, from myths and legends to
the First Flight, including a photograph of the original
12-hp engine used to power the Wright brothers’ plane.
Airport
This highly interactive site introduces young students
to the history of flight, how planes work, and
general flight safety. The site also includes a paper
airplane
factory with instructions for creating a “Stealth
Flyer,” “Kondor” and “XK-1.”
How
Things Fly
The National Air and Space Museum presents this
online exhibit that explains flight and aviation
and why
humans can’t fly. Includes a discussion of
weight, lift, thrust and drag as physical forces
affecting flight.
