about this vital human system, Gold includes discussion
of new technologies such as the artificial heart.
Drug therapy and dating disorders (Psychiatric
disorders: Drugs and psychology for the mind and body). Shirley
Brinkerhoff. Mason Crest, 2004. $24.95. 1-59084-565-X.
This text provides a history of and social context for
the problems of eating disorders. Brinkerhoff uses case
histories and diary excerpts to enliven her narrative
about this important and disturbing subject.
Mayo Clinic on osteoporosis: Keeping bones healthy
and strong and reducing the risk of fracture. Stephen Hodgson,
ed. Mason Crest, 2003. $32.95. 1-59084-804-7. A comprehensive
look at a disease associated with aging but which has
its beginnings at a much earlier age.
Multiple sclerosis (Just the facts). Alexander Burnfield.
Heineman, 2004. $27.07. 1-4034-4602-4. “MS is one
of the most common diseases of the nervous system in
young adults.” Used early in the narrative of this
book, this quote established the importance of understanding
multiple sclerosis. Burnfield also points out the wide
variety of well-known individuals affected by this debilitating
disease.
